From Townships to Coastlines - How We're Uniting

Dear Friends,

Over the last three months, something remarkable has been unfolding. From the dusty roads of South African townships to the turquoise waters of Cape Town’s coastline, communities are coming together—not just to survive, but to thrive.

At Action Change, we’ve always believed that local problems deserve local solutions, and thanks to your support, we’ve been making that belief a reality across Africa and Asia.

Water is Life—But It’s Not a Guarantee

Earlier this year, a team from Ohio State University’s Fisher School of Business joined us to assess access to water across three underserved communities. In one township—home to 70,000 people—just three working taps serve the entire population. The queues are endless, the pressure is heavy, and clean water is a luxury. But we’ve made a start.

We’ve already delivered three large water storage tanks and kicked off our rainwater harvesting pilot. It’s just the beginning, but for hundreds of families, it’s already making a daily difference.

Bhongolethu School: Holding the Line for 140 Children

We’ve taken on a deeper role at Bhongolethu Primary School. The school is in a critical registration process, but until that’s complete, they face a $2,000 monthly shortfall just to stay open. That’s teachers, meals, lights—everything. Still, every morning, the classrooms are filled with energy, learning, and hope. We’re determined not to let those 140 children slip through the cracks.

At the Siyakhula Pre-School, we’ve expanded from 21 to 48 children, many from the streets or informal housing. Each child now receives healthy meals, foundational education, and—perhaps most importantly—a place to belong.

From the Streets of India to the Shores of Cape Town

In Kerala, India, we’ve stepped in to cover the physiotherapist’s costs at our school for children with disabilities. The school’s regular funding hit a wall, and we simply couldn’t let vital care stop for these incredible kids.

Meanwhile, something revolutionary is growing in Cape Town’s harbour: Living Sea Walls. A concept born in Australia, these eco-engineered panels mimic natural marine habitats, attracting fish, improving biodiversity, and fighting climate change—all right here, in South Africa. We’re working with the V&A Waterfront to bring this innovation to life. A global solution with a local heartbeat.

Behind Every Project: A Team That Shows Up

May and June hit us hard. Fundraising dropped by 81%, a figure that’s both sobering and scary. But still—our team shows up. Smiling. Dreaming. Doing more with less. Whether in Ghana, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Zambia, or Zimbabwe, we’re still delivering hot meals, expanding education access, mentoring teams, and building futures from the ground up.

Sneak Peek: 20 Years of Impact

This September, we turn 20. And while we’ll save the full celebration for then, here’s a glimpse of what your belief in us has made possible:

  • 5.7 million hot meals served

  • 900 million hours of education delivered

  • 1,782 scholarships awarded

  • 10,000 street dogs sterilised

  • 73 projects now fully community-run

We are surviving day by day. But somehow, with your encouragement and their determination, we are still moving forward.

Thank you for walking this journey with us.

Tyrone and all our Amazing Action Changers!
