We have successfully completed a life-changing initiative that equipped 18 teenage mothers in Homa Bay County with the skills, confidence, and resources needed to become successful entrepreneurs. What began as a dream for economic independence has blossomed into 18 thriving businesses run by determined young women who refuse to let circumstances define their futures.
Comprehensive Training That Changed Everything
Each participant completed the Street Business School (SBS) program, mastering six crucial modules that formed the foundation of their entrepreneurial journey. These modules were faciltated by a member of the Activate Action team who is a certified SBS trainer:
18 Women, 10 Different Business Ventures
Following the SBS portion of the microbusiness incubator, each participant received a tailored startup kit that was carefully curated to support the launch of their business:
Poultry Farming - One participant received chicks, feeders, drinkers, feeds, and materials to construct her chicken coop, launching her into sustainable egg and poultry production.
Cereal & Grain Trading - Two participants established grain businesses with beans, maize, green grams, measuring equipment, and packaging materials, serving their communities' staple food needs.
Fashion & Second-Hand Clothing - Two participants opened clothing businesses with bales of quality second-hand children's clothes, providing affordable fashion options for local families.
Beauty & Cosmetics - Two participants launched cosmetic retail businesses with complete product ranges, bringing beauty services directly to their communities.
Professional Hair Services - Three participants established salon services equipped with hair dryers, styling kits, braiding tools, and professional products, offering mobile and fixed-location services.
Fish Trading - Four participants entered the fish business with cooking oil, utensils, containers, and initial stock, tapping into the region's rich fishing industry.
Food Vending - One participant started her chips and fried food business with a complete setup including cooking pots, fryers, oil, serving stands, and raw materials.
Household Goods - One participant established a utensil retail business with household items and laundry basins, meeting essential community needs.
Fresh Produce - One participant launched her vegetable business with fresh produce, weighing scales, and packaging materials, providing nutritious options to local families.
Footwear Sales - One participant opened a footwear business specializing in flip-flops and sandals, serving the practical needs of her community.
We're delighted to report a 100% success rate with all 18 participants successfully launching and now actively operating their businesses.
