Many Haitian children are turned away from school simply because their families cannot afford shoes. Without education, children face greater risks of poverty and instability. This project provides locally made school shoes for Haitian students while supporting dignified jobs for Haitian artisans. Donations help purchase durable shoes produced at the Deux Mains factory in Port-au- Prince, allowing children to attend school with confidence while strengthening Haiti's local economy.
In Haiti, many schools require students to wear shoes. For families struggling to meet daily needs, this simple requirement becomes a barrier to education. Children without shoes may be sent home or never enrolled at all. Missing school increases their risk of poverty, instability, and limited opportunity. At the same time, Haiti faces high unemployment. Traditional shoe drives often rely on imported donations that do little to support the local economy or create jobs.
This project reimagines the traditional shoe drive by producing shoes locally in Haiti. Through a partnership with Deux Mains, a social enterprise in Port-au-Prince, skilled Haitian artisans craft durable school shoes designed to last. Each pair is made with pride while providing fair wages and stable employment. A donation helps deliver double impact: Children receive the shoes they need to attend school. Haitian artisans earn income to support their families.
This project creates a cycle of opportunity. Children gain confidence and remain in school, while artisans sustain meaningful livelihoods. Over time, connecting education with local job creation helps reduce dependency on imported aid and builds stronger, more resilient communities in Haiti.
