A better 2026

Performing for the 16 days of activism against GBV

As you know, the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) is a Namibian NGO that uses Arts to create social awareness. 2025 has been very difficult for us. We operated with a much smaller budget, had to take various drastic measures and couldn’t achieve as much as we normally achieve. But many good things also happened.

In particular, we realized how many supporters we have. Many of you stood up, helped us, encouraged us. It took different forms: from Horizon Trust and its members who went above and beyond to support us, to Umbrella Initiative who organized screenings of our film ‘Lukas’ to raise funding for OYO, from partners who co-wrote applications with us to partners who provided us with supporting letters, from individuals who generously donated to us to institutions who contracted us for their events.

Thanks to all your support, we survived 2025 – and could still make, even if at a smaller scale, a difference. But – and more importantly – we also managed to secure funding for 2026. We still have some trusted partners, such as Horizon Trust and the Embassy of Finland to Namibia, but also secured new partners, such as Interteam and Goethe Institute SA. We are starting the year with a good program, and exciting projects. We will support out-of-school young people in the ||Kharas region, we will work on the issue of teenage pregnancy in the Kavango East and Kavango West regions of Namibia, we will work with teenagers living with disabilities across the country, we will support young people at risk in Gobabis. And we still have quite a few outstanding applications, so we cross our fingers they will also be approved.

In 2026, we are more than ever motivated to get back to the field and work with young people.

In November and December 2025, thanks to various partners, we had an exciting campaign for the 16-days of activism against GBV, traveling to 7 towns. We reached over 5,300 people, 630 people accessed HIV testing and over 100 people benefited from the services of our youth counsellor. We are very excited we could reach communities again.

I would like once again to give a special word of thanks to the OYO staff. Throughout this difficult period, despite cuts in salaries, they all remained committed to the work we do. We have an amazing team, and I wish donors could see their commitment. They don’t deserve any of what happened this year.

If you receive this report, it is because you have supported us and we truly thank you. We can’t ask you to contribute to our work again, but we would like to ask you to please put in a good word for us with friends and families. If anybody could still support our crowdfunding efforts, we would dearly appreciate.

With many thanks

The OYO team
