Babies in the Neonatal Intensive Unit struggle to breathe and to gain weight, and are always at risk of infection. Saving the lives of these smallest and most vulnerable babies is made much easier with high quality, functional electric syringes and respiratory devices. We use your donations to provide the vital equipment that helps neonatologists diagnose and administer appropriate therapies in a timely way to protect the lives of the hundreds of premature babies under their care.
Premature birth is a leading cause of infant death. All premature babies born in Albania are referred to one of two university hospitals in Tirana as their last hope for survival. Babies born early struggle to breathe and gain weight, and infection threatens their underdeveloped immune system. The equipment that is available to neonatologists and nurses even in these hospitals "of last resort" is less than adequate. To save lives, they need more equipment to diagnose and treat babies.
The Mother and Child Hospital Foundation asks medical professionals what tools they most desperately need to protect and save the lives of premature babies in their care. We prioritize their lists and purchase the best tools we can so they can do their work of diagnosing on time and saving the lives of hundreds of premature and sick newborns.
The value of each of the up to 25 babies in one intensive care unit is incalculable. We never know how a single life will impact the world if it is protected right from the beginning. When trained professionals use excellent equipment, the babies' eyes, lungs, and heart, and other systems are protected from the first days and lives are saved. This will mean that a family can bring home their baby who can grow up to lead a normal, healthy life.
