Build 2 water wells for 500 villagers in Ethiopia

Building on our foundation of providing clean water, DoW is continuing to work on the expansion of our project work across Ethiopia the past quarter. We are actively implementing new and final-stage projects in several regions, driven by our core mission to secure this fundamental right for all communities. The dedication of our teams and the unwavering support of our partners are bringing us closer to a future where water scarcity is no longer a barrier to a better life.

Our work continues to progress across multiple regions, with significant achievements and ongoing efforts to overcome logistical challenges. Following our successful rehabilitation of existing water points, we are now actively working on a new water project in the Tigray region. This initiative is designed to provide clean water access to several villages, directly impacting the health and well-being of thousands of community members. 

Our other project is in the Amhara region, where the main construction of our clean water project for a local school and the surrounding village is complete. Our team is currently focused on the final phase of work, including pipeline installation and the construction of water distribution points, known as bonos. We anticipate the completion of this project in the coming months. We are also finalizing clean water projects at three distinct sites in the Sidama region. Simultaneously, work is progressing at our project sites in the SNNPR Region. Despite the considerable challenges posed by the heavy rainy season, our team is working tirelessly to ensure these projects are completed and will result in thousands of people across Ethiopia receiving clean water as soon as possible. 

Beyond direct project implementation, we are committed to empowering the next generation of leaders about water and climate. We are in the initial stages of revitalizing our volunteer programs at universities, aiming to inspire and educate a water-conscious generation that can carry this mission forward. With the approaching Ethiopian New Year, exciting times are ahead of us with this initiative as well as other upcoming projects that are going to be implemented.

Clean water for all, always plays a part in improving the lives of others.

Following the last reporting quarter, our organization celebrated the successful completion of a vital water point in the Oromia region. This project, fraught with obstacles, stands as a testament to the resilience of our team and the unwavering need for such initiatives. Overcoming these hurdles brought a sense of profound satisfaction, underscoring the tangible impact of our work on the lives of the community.

Also in this quarter, we had the opportunity to shift our focus to the Tigray region, an area still highly affected with the aftermath of conflict. Originally, the plan we had outlined was to support the rehabilitation of five water points, a plan that was funded by the generosity of online fundraising spearheaded by a former board member and a lifetime volunteer. The original plan was however amended and allowed us to expand on with the help of another partner and now, we have successfully completed ten rehabilitation projects and are progressing towards the completion of a eleventh at the time of this report. This achievement holds particular significance, as Tigray was where DoW began by the efforts of seven female university students and was the location for the inception of our organization, nurturing and guiding us in our early stages. Returning to lend a helping hand in their time of need felt like a profound act of reciprocity, a demonstration of the enduring bonds forged through shared humanity.

Looking ahead, we are determined to extend our reach and impact. The coming months will see us finalizing the rehabilitation project in the Tigray region, focusing on various projects in the Amhara region, continuing our mission to bring clean water to those who need it most. Each project, each rehabilitated water point, represents a step towards a more bright and sustainable future for the community.
