Thank you so much for supporting FarmSahel!
Because of your ongoing support, this time of the year, we provide training to our farmers; However, this year is different. A coup that overthrew the president of Burkina Faso was launched on January 23, 2022. This event affected our work, and we are now planning our training for April. Stay tuned.
To continue to better serve our farmers, participatory diagnostic workshops were organized and held by our team in Bindé on November 17, 18, and 19, 2021. During these workshops, the village development committees, women's groups, representatives of internally displaced women due to terrorist attacks, and administrative leaders were present. The workshop aimed to identify the real problems of the community to adapt our interventions.
From these workshops, FarmSahel found out that there are no irrigated systems for off-season planting. Making a population of 50,000 people rely on rain every year to farm. This means farming for three months and having no activity for nine months, waiting for the next planting season. On top of that, farmer every day are faced with the many uncertainties of rain, wind, heat, cold, drought, flood, erosion, and environmental degradation. Women are the most vulnerable because they do not have access to resources the way men do. Against these uncertainties they apply their wits, strength, stamina, and courage to feed their families and, if possible, improve their quality of life. One unfortunate weather creates food insecurity for these women.
Fight Against Women Poverty, is a project we will soon launch to strengthen the capacities of women through technical training of off-season production with irrigated plots and off-season production kits.
Your continued support is what helps us provide these vital services to these women.
