After the experiences of the 2017 earthquakes that affected central Mexico and the global emergency caused by COVID-19, Fondo Semillas developed an emergency response model aimed at transforming assistentialist approaches by placing life at the center, along with the specific needs of communities, which we recognize as key actors in the reconstruction and rebuilding of the social fabric and community spaces.
In recent years, the majority of efforts have focused primarily on responding to socio-environmental phenomena that have worsened as a result of climate change, inequality, and the lack of adequate infrastructure for proper response. Since 2023, Mexico has experienced the impacts of hurricanes that have affected states and communities with high levels of poverty and marginalization, which are also marked by issues such as widespread violence.
Fondo Semillas offers an emergency response model with a feminist perspective, placing life at the center and fostering community work. The strategy is composed of: Nodes Network, a network that is activated to conduct community assessments and map regional and national key actors. Rapid Response Funds (RRF). An initiative that allocates financial and informational resources to organizations and collectives Women Rebuilding Guerrero, a program launched in response to Hurricane Otis.
Supporting grassroots organizations helps identify and implement effective recovery strategies that go beyond reaction to include prevention and anticipation. By financing and empowering women as key agents of change, we advance gender equality and position them as rights-holders and decision-makers. This support rebuilds social fabric, fosters participation, and strengthens autonomy and long-term sustainability.
