As 2025 draws to a close, we are writing to you with an update and a heartfelt thank you. The progress we seek the birth of a Northern White Rhino calf—is a long-term scientific and conservation endeavor. However, the consistent support you provide is the lifeblood of this effort, ensuring that every day we are one step closer to our goal.

Thank you for your tireless commitment throughout 2025 - your generosity has been essential in navigating the global challenges and maintaining the rigorous standards required to save this species.

While the world watches for the next scientific milestone, your donations are focused on the essential, daily work that makes any future success possible. Every contribution helps us maintain the 24/7 safety and comprehensive care of Najin and Fatu.

Here is what your funding achieved this past year on Ol Pejeta Conservancy:

Dedicated Ranger Protection: Your support ensured we provided full salaries, advanced training, and crucial new equipment for the highly-skilled, armed anti-poaching team. This continuous, round-the-clock protection is an important factor in guaranteeing the safety of the last two northern white rhinos.
Sustained Veterinary Care: In 2025, we maintained a dedicated supply of veterinary medicines and ensured continuous staff expertise for immediate and routine health monitoring. Because of you, Najin and Fatu’s sustained health remained our top operational priority throughout the year.
Readiness for the Future: Your support helped maintain the operational readiness for the entire Ol Pejeta infrastructure, which is essential for the next steps.

The world's first successful IVF rhino pregnancy in September 2023 proved that our technique is viable and as we wrap up 2025, we are more committed than ever to making history.

Your Latest Northern White Rhino Update

Your continued support is a beacon of hope in our conservation efforts, and we have an inspiring update we are excited to share with you.

On August 24, 2025, National Geographic premiered "The Last Rhinos: A New Hope," a powerful documentary now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. This film tells the story of Najin and Fatu—the last two northern white rhinos on Earth—and the remarkable team, including our dedicated staff, who are fighting for their future.

As a valued supporter, you know that the death of Sudan, the last male northern white rhino, became the catalyst for one of the most daring conservation efforts ever attempted. Here at Ol Pejeta, we refuse to let extinction be the end of their story.

The film explores the cutting-edge science and intimate bonds that are at the heart of the BioRescue project. You’ll see the groundbreaking work to create a lifeline for the species, from every egg retrieved and every embryo created. You will also witness the challenges the team has faced, including the devastating loss of surrogate rhino Curra, which, in its own heartbreaking way, proved that our pioneering science is working.

Progress in science is rarely straightforward. But thanks to your support, our team continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, learning and adapting with every step. Powering Progress : Innovation For Good

The recent exciting progress from Colossal Biosciences in their ambitious efforts to bring back the dire wolf serves as a powerful reminder of the extraordinary potential of advanced genetic technologies to reverse extinction. This groundbreaking work fuels our hope for a similar outcome for the northern white rhino, and we are so grateful to you for being a part of this journey.

As you are aware, only Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos, remain. Our efforts to secure the future of their subspecies rely heavily on pioneering scientific solutions, and Colossal Biosciences is a vital partner in this endeavor.

Colossal Biosciences has been actively contributing their cutting-edge expertise in genetic engineering to our mission. Their work significantly complements the successful IVF program led by the BioRescue consortium, which has already resulted in over 30 pure northern white rhino embryos. The progress Colossal is making with the dire wolf underscores the potential of these advanced techniques for the northern white rhino.

A key aspect of Colossal's continued involvement focuses on advanced stem cell techniques aimed at generating a greater diversity of reproductive cells from the valuable preserved genetic material of deceased northern white rhinos.
