Building together a dignified and safe future

Our Center for Sustainability and Community Climate Change Adaptation (CSACCC) is getting closer every day to providing our communities with the tools they need to build a dignified future — one with food security and resilience in the face of the climate challenges ahead. We know that historically impoverished populations —especially women, as well as rural, Afro-descendant, and Indigenous communities— are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

That is why our work focuses on them: not only because of their vulnerability, but also because they are the guardians of deep knowledge about their ecosystems and sustainable ways of living.

In recent months, we have been strengthening alliances with local institutions and organizations to gather as much support as possible and continue turning this collective dream into reality. We have also been reproducing endangered tree species in community led green houses and planting them in areas that the communities have commited to conservation.

Climate vulnerability is intensified by economic hardship, which is why one of our priorities is helping families increase their income. Although we still don’t have the infrastructure we plan to build through this project, we have already begun consolidating a database of forest and agricultural products available for sale —a first step toward launching our farmers’ market.

Thanks to our donnors we know we will be able to begin construction soon and start our training activities!
