Do you know that in the DRC thousands of children are exploited in artisanal mineral extraction sites? Child labor associated with mines represents a very high level of danger. Through this project, we would like to raise awareness among artisanal mining cooperatives, families and authorities about the danger of child labor in mines and save 100 children from mines. We are dedicated to offering an opportunity for a better future to these children facing child labor in mines.
According to CARITAS in 2023, around 5,000 young boys and girls are exploited in dangerous mining activities in each mining site in South Kivu. In these mining sites, like adults, they work tirelessly and without safety. From a young age, they do not have the chance to live with family, to study, to flourish in a favorable environment. They are exposed to disease, sexual exploitation, the risk of asphyxiation, landslides or other fatal accidents.
Providing children's rights in artisanal mining environments. This all involves an awareness campaign aimed at putting in place measures against child exploitation in mineral supply chains. Promote the education of children leaving mining sites through school education, fun activities, support and professional training.
Through the awareness campaign, we want to get the authorities, mining cooperatives and communities to stop the work of children in mining sites. By educating children rescued from mines, we empower them to achieve their goals and become useful to their families and communities. We reintegrate them into the education system to equip them with the skills needed for the job market.
