Joy to the World Primary School in the far north of Namibia provides excellent education for children from very rural communities. Despite the high quality of education, the school lacks basic resources to provide for children, most of whom come from poverty-stricken households. The staff must dig deep into their pockets to provide books, stationery and other needs. They also grow vegetable gardens to ensure the children are provided with a nutritious meal daily. Some of the children often attend school not wearing proper school uniform which results in them being taunted and bullied by their peers. A uniform provides children with pride and dignity as well as a sense of belonging. It was a joyous day when Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, together with some Bishops and Canon Delene Mark visited the school during a recent trip to Namibia. The children felt very honoured to meet the head of the Anglican Church and they felt very important! HOPE Africa provided school uniform and supplies to the most vulnerable children at the school. Archbishop Thabo encouraged all learners to always respect their teachers, other adults and their peers. He urged them to take their schoolwork seriously as education is a very important stepping stone into their bright futures. The children sang and danced for the group. One of the learners rendered a very emotional and heartfelt thanks to the group for travelling so far to brighten their day! It was a joyous day indeed. Thank you to all who continue to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people. “A good education is a foundation for a better future.” Elizabeth Warren.
