Sponsor Environmental Education of Kids in Brazil

Dear supporter,

We are immensely grateful for your contribution, which has strengthened the foundations to sustain our educational project for another year.

The school year in Brazil ends in December, when the summer holidays begins, and we have been able to carry out our environmental education projects, strengthen community ties and expand the connection between children and teenagers wirh the nature. We ended the year with 120 students, aged 4 to 15.

In 2024, we offered regular basic education classes; art, theater, English, music and dance classes for teenagers; we will hold an environmental march; plant and harvest vegetable gardens and fruit trees; field trips in nearby environmental preservation areas; we continued the project of young environmental monitors, all of which will strengthen citizenship, critical thinking and a positive relationship with nature and the environment, and reduce waste and garbage production.

The resources we have obtained through the support we have received in 2024, have helped to guarantee the edication os the children. The individual monthly cost per student is $100. Your contribution can ensure that more children have access to a quality education.Furthermore, our school currently still needs to invest in infrastructure, such as electrical repairs, desks and tables, and maintenance of spaces and materials so that it can function more adequately.

The electrical renovation costs $1500, the bathroom renovation costs $800, and the purchase of lockers and desks costs $3000. With a donation of $50, we can purchase a desk and chair kit for a student. If we get 30 donations of $50, we can renovate the entire electrical system of the school, which is over 30 years old and has problems that compromise safety. If 10 people contribute $80, we can renovate the bathrooms.

The Brilho do Cristal Community School, which currently serves 128 children and adolescents, ages 4 to 15, in the rural area of the state of Bahia, Brazil, in a region surrounded by environmental protection areas, continues to work to provide qualified education to the community of Vale do Capão, in the surroundings of Chapada Diamantina.

At the beginning of September, the school was one of 10 selected from 692 projects as a Sustainable School by the Santillana Institute, taking part in the awards ceremony that took place in Rio de Janeiro. Although it was not the standout school among the 5 representatives of early childhood education and elementary education, being among the finalists was a great sign of recognition for our pedagogical proposal and daily work.

The school also participated in the International Seminar on Educating Cities, Childhood and Sustainability, in the city of Irecê-BAHIA, on September 20th and 21st, presenting the project Knowing to Preserve.

We thank you for the support that allows our school to continue operating and carrying out projects in favor of children and teenagers, in our community, and also carrying out and disseminating practices necessary for the planet!

We continue to seek to maintain and improve our school, especially in terms of infrastructure, which is still very precarious, requiring investment in electrical and plumbing systems, the structure of the walls, which are made of clay, and the floor, which is cracked.
