Builders repairing the bore hole at the school
Dear Friend
I like it when I can report positively on the progress of our project, so now - and eventually, I can report that the new toilets and handwash station, are back on track with new builders.
Before the project got restarted in the middle of May we had another hold up, albeit for only a week, when the hand operated water pump at the school had a problem. That thankfully did not hold things up for long.
So now it’s looking like full steam ahead and next time I hope to report that the new toilets and hand washing station is finished. Fingers crossed!
Best wishes
Yours sincerely
Danny

Frustration and hold ups!
By Danny Lovey | Project Manager

Dear Friend
When I last reported back to you at the end of October, I reported how “frustratingly slow” things were moving in the progress of completing the new toilets and hand washing facilities. Holes had been dug for the new toilets, but no new work had started, and at the time building was expected to start shortly.
Things have not changed much since then! I have got to the bottom of the delay, and this was because a builder who specialises in Latrine work had not been appointed by the contractor we had assigned to the project. We had lots of excuses along the way, but our patience had worn thin!
As I write today a new builder has been found who is a specialist in Latrine building and is approved by the local Rural District Council to do this work. I am now trying to tie up the technicalities in authorising the new builder to officially be given the go ahead, and agreeing the costs and payment route.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me to be able to sort this in the very near future!
Best wishes
Yours sincerely

New toilet facilities slowly getting there

Dear Friend
My Report for June/July advised that the refurbishment of the existing 10 toilet latrines were completed, and another 10 new toilets/latrines are being added to, so that the school will have a total of 20 toilets once the work is completed. In addition, the eight-position hand washing facilities are in process of being built as well.
Things frustratingly have moved slowly since, not helped by the existing economic and overall financial situation in the country. The holes are dug for the new latrines, and the building of the hand wash station is on course to be completed once work continues the new latrines.
Last week, I received news that bricks have been delivered, and that the work on the new latrines will shortly begin. I hope so! I attach pictures I received of the delivery.
Very best wishes
Danny
