UN Girl Child Day

We finished the last school year in August with the continuation of our flagship STEAM programs at Ibadan Grammar School - Robotics, Engineering Design, and Liberal Arts.

In September, we kicked off our five-day Tech Girls Boot Camp — an immersive learning experience designed to introduce young minds to essential digital skills and tech disciplines.

The five-day bootcamp began with orientation and foundational training in digital tools and design. Participants were introduced to the objectives of the program and received refresher lessons in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to strengthen their basic computer skills. They later explored the principles of UI/UX design, analyzing real-world examples of good and bad interfaces before sketching wireframes for their school’s landing page. Subsequent sessions introduced Figma, where students practiced creating wireframes and learned to replicate sample designs. By midweek, they transitioned into web development, beginning with HTML structure and attributes, and then moving on to CSS for styling and layout design.

In the latter part of the week, the focus shifted to JavaScript and teamwork. Participants learned programming fundamentals and were grouped to develop landing pages for their school websites using Figma, HTML, and CSS. The final day was dedicated to project completion and presentations, where teams showcased their work and received feedback from mentors. The bootcamp concluded with an award session recognizing creativity and effort, followed by closing remarks and group photos to celebrate a week of learning and collaboration.

In addition, the team celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child with students from Ibadan Grammar School. The event focused on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) applies across different fields, with speakers and panelists simplifying the concept and exploring career opportunities for young girls. Participants brainstormed ways AI could transform their school and shared their innovative ideas with enthusiasm and confidence. The discussion emphasized that AI is for everyone—not just scientists or engineers—and encouraged the girls to take bold first steps toward solving real-world problems. The event echoed this year’s theme, “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Front Line of Crises,” inspiring hope that the next generation of girls will lead change fearlessly.
