Celebrate World Environment Day!

Harji
Harji

As the sun rises in Kelwara in South Rajasthan, the aroma of brewing tea mixes with the sounds of birds and rustling leaves. In the midst of it all, Harji's broom sweeps the streets at the Kelwara bus stand, a testament to his unwavering dedication. Passengers who board the first bus to Udaipur at 6:00 am witness his inspiring commitment every day.

We are delighted to share the story of Harji, an 82-year-old resident of Harijan Basti in Kelwara village, Rajsamand district, southern Rajasthan. Harji has dedicated his life to keeping his village clean. Starting with cleaning homes and shops, he later joined the Kelwara Gram Panchayat as a sanitation worker, where he served for four decades.

In 2018, Harji joined Seva Mandir's No Open Waste (NOW) Kelwara project as an Aarogya Mitra (sanitation worker). Despite his age, he actively participates in meetings and trainings to ensure a clean environment in the area. His service has been recognised by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Kumbhalgarh. Although he has relatives in the community, Harji lives independently and is dedicated to his community.

Your support will enable Harji and his colleagues to make meaningful social improvements with dignity. We deeply appreciate your generosity and commitment to this cause.

On this World Environment Day, lets support and recognise heroes like Harji who are making a tangible difference in protecting our environment.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Team Seva Mandir
