Hello friends,
We wanted to share an update on what’s been happening at our school. Recently, we had a scary incident. Because our school is right on the edge of the township to stay close to the community we serve, a passerby with a knife robbed one of our teachers. We have a security guard, but with two sites, he can’t be everywhere at once. After the incident, our teacher understandably thought about leaving. Our staff are our heart and soul—they are dedicated, passionate, and have been with us for many years. We work hard to make sure they feel safe and supported.
Thanks to your generosity and the new micro project we set up on GlobalGiving, we raised enough funds to build a security fence around most of our school. The fence makes everyone feel safer and has lifted spirits for both staff and children.
We’re still providing breakfast at school, but unfortunately, we can’t afford lunch at the moment, so our cook had to leave. We also need to prepare for 2026 Term 2 stationery and textbooks, which costs around $3,500. We’re figuring out how to make that happen, with some help from local fundraisers and small loans.
Even though things are challenging, there’s real hope. If we can keep going until May 2026, we are on track to get government registration. This would unlock funding of 2,500 ZAR per child, up from the 1,000 ZAR we currently receive. This milestone will make the school fully sustainable and a flagship example showing that quality education in townships is possible.
We really value your support in keeping the lights on while we work toward this exciting milestone. Every bit of help keeps our children learning, smiling, and growing in a safe environment.
Thank you for standing with us and believing in what we’re building.
