Hello friends,
Greetings from Cape Town! It has been an incredible few months at our school, and I have so much to share with you.
First off, Our New Feence! It looks absolutely amazing! It might not sound like a huge deal to some, but to our staff, the kids, and their families, it is everything. Feeling safe and secure while learning is the foundation of everything we do and thank you to everyone that donated towards this 250K fence!
We had such a wonderful end to 2025. A massive thank you to UniFabs in the UK for sending Santa to visit both our school and pre-school in December. Every single child received a beautiful educational and sustainably sourced gift. And thanks to a local catering company, Horns and Phillips here in Cape Town, every child also enjoyed a delicious lunch for the first time in 2 months. It was a true celebration, and honestly, it was the first proper meal some of our kids had enjoyed in three months because funding had been so tight.
The biggest highlight? We held our Grade 7 graduation to end the school year. This was a monumental moment for us. This group was our very first class that started 10 years ago in pre-grade R. We went from one single class a decade ago to nine classes today, covering everything from pre-school all the way through to Grade 7. We did it! And the best part is that every single one of our graduates earned a spot in a great secondary school. The project is working!
Looking ahead, two of our dedicated teachers are leveling up their skills by training in Art Therapy and Trauma management. Their commitment is unmatched and they teach because they believe in our mission, not for the salary and this training is going to be incredibly valuable for our students. We are looking to raise some funds to support their professional development, as they give so much to these children every day.
We have also welcomed our new Grade R class, and they are so full of smiles and excitement to be here. However, we have a tough reality to face: 15 of our children have seen their families pushed back into poverty or have lost their scholarships. We urgently need to find $120 a month per child ( $1,440 for the full year) to make sure they can stay with us. We are determined not to see them leave and if you want to sponsor reply to our email and we will send you updates and details of who you can sponsor!
On the maintenance front, we hit a snag with an unexpected roof leak. We are under pressure to raise $500 to fix it before April. If we don’t, our Grade 4s might be swimming in their lessons as we head into the wet autumn and winter months!
Finally, as I walked around the grounds today, the school is looking a little shabby. We have been running on a shoestring budget for so long that the wear and tear is showing. This year, we are putting out a call for fundraising and volunteers to help us refresh our classrooms and outside spaces. If you, your local community group, or your work crew fancy a trip to Cape Town and can help us raise funds for paint and supplies, please get in touch!
To help us tackle these immediate needs, keep in mind that the Little by Little campaign is coming up from March 17th to the 20th. Because GlobalGiving matches donations up to 50 dollars at 50 percent, your gift goes so much further toward keeping these kids in school and fixing that roof.
Thank you for being such a huge part of this journey. We are so proud of how far we have come, and with your help, the next ten years are going to be even better.
Cheers,
