Cultural practices for off season vegetable

In Nepal this is the summer season starts from March to May this quarter. The victim families are in defficult situation for maintaining livelihood and day to day live The flood affected victim families have demanded and interest for long run income generation opportunities. For this  baseline assessement have been carried out by MRC Nepal for the possible income generation opportunity. Based on finding, technical feasibility and interest of the farmer, off season vegetable production technology is the best option for increasing income and better livelihood of the victim families. There is no other better option as the vegetable gives good income in shortest period time. The areas are much favourable for vegetable production as there are fertile land and irrigation for vegetable production.

Considering this situation, MRC Nepal suppport seed of vegetable which are market potential. Along with this MRC Nepal support production materials, domestic pesticide preparation technology for organic vegetable production, capacity building training and technical backstoping support. As a result the victim families are able  to produce vegetable and sell in the market. They receive good income average NRs 25,000 from 336 sqm of land. They are very happy with this income. Not only selling vegetable but also they consumed organic fresh vegetable meeting kitchen requireent. They are able to improve health status by consuming protein and mineral rich vegetable. In Nepal the poorest of the poor families grow vegetable as they are rich sources of vitamin, protein and mineral. Also vegetable gives better productivity of land.

At the last victim families thanked to GlobalGiving and MRC Nepal for getting such genuine support.
