Help Fund Learning Resources for our School Laos

Dear Supporters,

This quarter the GVI trust contributed directly towards UNSDG4: Quality education, increasing the number of qualified and trained teachers in Laos by providing the salary of two local interns, who are training in TEFL style English teaching, lesson planning and other skills development. We are currently working on plans on how we can get these two back to teach as soon as possible, and will continue to support them in their journey as long as we can. We want to keep in mind that we are all in this together, and let’s not leave anyone behind! Donations made to this fund will be used in the coming months to help support these inspiring individuals to continue working (wherever possible, and safe to do so). 

The GVI Trust has also contributed in working towards UNSDG5: Gender Equality, by providing the salary of our female NSP, Miss Chai, who has spent several months building skills in English, teaching, French and presentation delivery. These are all incredibly marketable skills, and will hopefully help her to seek gainful employment in the future.

Dear Supporters,

This has been a very productive quarter for our Educational Support fund in Laos fund. We spent over 3,225USD towards UNSDG #4: Quality Education and increasing access to quality education for students in Laos and UNSDG #3 Good health and well-being. These funds were used to support free English and other life skills classes in town. 2,400USD was also used to support the construction of huts for Novice Monk students at WPO to sleep in more hygienic facilities. 

This Quarter The GVI Trust has contributed to the continuing of GVI Laos’ free classes for male and female students from rural Laos, who come to the city to gain access to higher quality education. 

The GVI Trust has also contributed to UNSDG #5: Gender equality by using the rented classrooms to support all-female classes and skill-building workshops. Students learned about gender equality, learned presentation skills, and computer skills. 

The GVI Trust also contributed to improving the quality of sleeping quarters for Novice Monks coming from rural villages to study in town in one of the largest Monk schools in Luangprabang. Because of the influx of students over the past several years, the temple grounds are not equipped to house so many novices and monks. There is a project to raise funds to build small huts so that 3-4 novices can sleep in more hygienic facilities rather than all sleeping together on the floor of the temple. We had a very generous donation that allowed the monks to help build 4 of these huts, directly impacting the quality of life of up to 16 students.
