What's been happening at Farmers of the Future?

By Morgan Domijan | Fundraising Manager

In September, an agreement was signed with Maripe High School in the community where our Farmers of the Future will expand. Everyone is so excited for this expansion! A large plot has been allocated for the gardens and a classroom that is not being used too. Our volunteers were able to lend a helping hand and clear the plot of land from large bushes and trash, also creating compost stations. We are now working with a variety of people to plough the field at Maripe High School. In October we were able to work with the High School and start Farmers of the Future sessions. We even had the chance to paint the classroom and added a tree painting with "hands that helped".

Now for the introductions! We would like to highlight three farmers who are part of Farmers of the Future.

First – meet Taelo. Taelo joined Farmers of the Future in May of 2017 and has become one of our most dedicated and passionate farmers. His goal is to one day start his own farm.

Next up, meet Akhetia. Akhetia joined Farmers of the Future this year. Since graduating high school, she has felt limited by her work experience and joined FoF to help develop her professional skills. She hopes to open up her own supermarket to support her and her family. to one day attend nursing school.

Finally, we have Masedi. Masedi joined FoF this year to learn how to start her own business. While she wants to create her own garden at home for her family, she hopes the skills she learns can help her pursue her passion for jewellery and fashion design.

We are so proud of all of our Farmers and cannot wait for 2019!
