Duke is a neglected gelding that County of San Diego Department of Animal Services rescued in February of this year. He transferred to our care on March 8. A winter arrival is never ideal for an emaciated horse. The ranch sits at about 4,000 ft. elevation, bringing us freezing winter temperatures and snow. Horses burn a lot of calories keeping warm in the winter, so we knew it would be challenging time to help this boy regain the weight he had lost to neglect.
We are so happy to share that Duke is now thriving. He has filled out beautifully. He has shed his rough winter coat, unveiling a beautiful, healthy coat beneath. Most importantly, he has reclaimed his spark. Duke is a very social boy who loves flirting with the mares that live on either side of him. He also enjoys playing with Roy, a gelding that lives in an adjacent corral.
We are so grateful to YOU for the incredible transformation of Duke. It is your generous support that allows us to help horses like Duke to recover from terrible neglect and thrive in their forever home. Thank you for supporting our efforts to help neglected horses thrive!
