Life saving food for the disabled and elderly

Every week we feed 250 families in the poor communities in and around Pattaya City, Thailand. Many of these people lack the education to go and get simple jobs such as waitressing or serving in a store. Some of them do not have ID cards which makes the situation more complex too. This leads the most common source of income coming from garbage recycling which does not meet the most basic needs of these families.

In  addition to this, the places they live in the slum are not registered house addresses. This results in no access to applying for assistance from the government for health, education and pensions.

Those who are severely disabled are the most vulnerable as their needs are expensive and without access to food, medical and hygiene products they fall ill easily and sometimes die due to malnutrition. We have 5 children who are now teenagers, however they are unable to eat solid food, walk or use the bathroom. They are fed through nasal gastric tubes or G tubes into their tummies. It is essential the food they are given is clean, nutritious and able to be digested. As they cannot eat rice, their main source of nutrition comes from formula and the cost of feed feeding 1 child per month is approximately $160 USD. The local garbage recycler makes approximately $70 USD per month. Caring for these children is financially impossible and without this they will die. It is heartbreaking when we find children when it is too late to save them.

In addition, they need clean water to mix the formula with, medical supplies, pampers and other support. They have loving families to care for them, however if the physical needs are not met, many children in this situation end up in large disabled orphanages due to poverty.

Thank you for helping us to care for these children so they can stay in their families.
