Hello Lovely Supporters!
It's summer still here in South Africa and therefore as we kick off the new academic year we decided to get the children inviolved with our sustainable food program here at the school.
In 2019 pre-covid with your incredible donations we build our first ever aquaponics system and huge veggie garden, since then we have produced enough veggies for 70% of the year to feed 150 children, our school is now growing so we have just under 200 students so we do need to increase our veggie garden and we hope to save up this year to do that!
But I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how much fun our Grade 4 and 5 students had last week when we took them into the veggie garden to dig and pick the veggies while teaching them how they can build a sustainable veggie patch at home. They absolutely loved the day
With our own veggies in the garden this has really cut our food bill and we are now feeding the children on as little as 80p a day. This is to purchase gas, cooking oil, meat, additional fruit, water and other essentials to go with our home grown veggies. While we continue to fundraise to cover this daily amount we also would love to ramp up our fundraising efforts so we can alongside this fund a chicken farm and install a biogas system for waste to really take this daily cost to as close to zero as possible.
It's our dream but with your support we move one step closer and I hope we can do this in 2023! Stay tuned
Thank You,
Tyler and the School Team
