Education & nutrition for children in Peru

With a quarter of the year already gone we are making great strides towards our main goals this year. There was a very proud moment for our local teacher Ediluz in Perú. Juan José, who she has taught for the past 6 years, has been selected by the Ministry of Education to attend their school of excellence, including secondary school, college and University, all expenses paid. Well done Juan José and especially “bien hecho” Ediluz! On a sadder note, the recent rains and floods caused widespread damage to the community and the region with the school closed for several days. April will hopefully bring a sense of normality.

Our investment into Sustainable Income Plans is atop of our agenda for 2017 which not only provide income for the schools though also provide extra income for the local families. In a bid to raise these funds the third Phoenix Seven Continent Charity Challenge got underway in Guatemala on 22nd March, summiting Volcano Tajumulco, the highest point in Central America. As a bonus, Global Giving will be running its Little by Little Matching Campaign from 3^rd to 7^th April, designed to celebrate the power of small donations and the power of the crowd. Following the end of year trip to the beach - a relief and a stark reminder what it is like for the children to live all their lives in the desert - and a very successful summer school in January with record-breaking numbers the school holiday is underway with classes due to begin again in March. Our local teachers are preparing for the new school year and we aim to add yet another ex-student to the ranks as teacher. In 2017 we aim to implement various sustainable income plans to allow our children to move on to secondary school having graduated from our school. Our aim over the next two years is to set up local businesses for our graduates from college and University.

The third Seven Continent Charity Challenge gets underway in Guatemala on Tuesday 21st March 2017 to raise funds for project costs and employment opportunities for our graduates, as mentionned above, climbing Volcano Tajumulco, the highest point in Central America. There are more events planned throughout the year in different countries including England, Ireland, Australia, Canada and the United States so if you want to get involved in Guatemala on 21^st March or other events, please do contact us on the link below and you can use this page as your fundraising page.
