EMPOWERING THE POOR WITH EDUCATION AND SKILLS

The Hand to hand Foundation adult school was born out of a need to find educational opportunities for older teens and adult who either did not fit into mainstream school or never had a chance to attend when they were younger. In the beginning we would send up to 20 students 1 hour away to Chonburi on a Sunday to atttend classes. This is when the governemnt approached us about setinbg up a school here in Pattaya.

The school is officially certified by the Thai education department, which means that any graduating certificates the students recieve are offical and can be used to help apply for employment or even further studies in vocational schools or univesrsities. The chance to study at hand to hand is a window of hope into the future.

The Thai education departemne t employs 2 Thai teachers who conduct classes. The Hand to Hand Foundation is responsible for hosting the school, providing supplies and uniforms as well as ensuring students have transport. There are scosts for sitting exams and the students must attend ctivities with other groups like our to participate in spots and cultural activities. The foundation covers all of these costs. The foundation also supplies free Englisg classes and micro enterprise skills training in woodwork, baking, cooking, gardening and raising chickens. Participating in these skills projects not only gives the students a chance to learn new skills but also enables them to earn a small amount of money.

The school now has an official logo!. Designing and submitting the logo has taken approximately 1 year, so are very thankful and proud to have our own logo.

It is holiday time  in the Thai school calendar, so it is a great time to learn more English. We are having classes for younger students and adults who want to have fun and learn more English. All of our teachers are volunteers and native English speakers who have a passion to help others.

The Thai school term ended with exams for our adult students. The had to attend exam centres to take the exams so that their results can go towards achieving a high school certificate. Some students who are struggling will be receiving extra 1-1 tuition to help them achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills for basic life skills. The goal is not just academic performance, but self-esteem and realising that they are important members of their community who can make positive contributions.
