Executive Summary

During the last three months, Sheepcare Community Centre implemented targeted interventions to improve retention, academic performance, and completion rates among vulnerable girls in primary school.

Through your support, we addressed key barriers to girls’ education including poverty, menstrual hygiene challenges, lack of school supplies, and risk of early dropout. The project continues to align with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), delivering measurable progress toward improved completion outcomes.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Direct Beneficiaries:

220 girls currently supported under the program.

Retention Rate:

Retention improved from 72% to 94%], representing a 22% increase.

Attendance Rate:

Average attendance increased from 70% to 85% during the reporting period.

Transition & Completion Progress:

25 girls progressed successfully to the university level from last year's Natioanal examination and are going to pursue their dream careers.
22 girls completed primary education in November and Joined their Junior Secondary school in January..

Academic Performance:

35% improvement in average class performance among supported girls, they were able to compete favourable with their male counterparts
Increased assignment completion and classroom participation as reported by teachers.

Menstrual Health Support:

210 girls received dignity kits and menstrual hygiene support, reducing absenteeism linked to menstrual challenges by 45 %.

Breaking Barriers Through Education

Introduction

At Sheepcare Community Centre, we believe that every girl deserves the chance to learn, dream, and create a better future. Through the “Help 100 Girls Complete Primary School” project, we are empowering vulnerable girls from informal settlements to stay in school, overcome barriers, and unlock their potential through education, mentorship, and holistic care.

Project Overview and Progress

Over the past four months, the project has continued to transform lives through direct support to girls enrolled at Sheepcare Primary and Junior Schools. With your generous support through GlobalGiving, we have achieved the following:

School Fees Support: 92 girls have had their tuition fees and learning materials fully covered this term, ensuring they remain in school without interruption.
Provision of School Supplies: Over 100 girls received essential school items including uniforms, shoes, books, and stationery.
Meals and Nutrition: Our feeding program continues to provide two nutritious meals daily, helping improve concentration and attendance.
Mentorship and Life Skills Training: We held two mentorship sessions focusing on self-esteem, menstrual hygiene management, and goal setting.
Parental Engagement: 45 parents attended our sensitization meeting on the importance of supporting their daughters’ education, reducing cases of absenteeism and early dropouts.

Impact Story

Meet Margaret, a 13-year-old pupil in Grade 7, who once faced the risk of dropping out due to lack of school fees and family challenges. Through this project, Margaret has received consistent support her school needs are met, and she participates actively in class. Today, she dreams of becoming a teacher so she can help other girls access education. Her story represents the many lives changed through your kindness.

Challenges Encountered

Rising costs of food and school supplies have slightly stretched our budget.
Some girls still face social challenges at home, including pressure for early marriages or domestic work.
To address these, we have strengthened our community outreach and psychosocial support for affected families.

Future Plans

In the coming months, we plan to:

Expand our mentorship and leadership development programs.
Introduce digital learning sessions to improve academic performance.
Strengthen partnerships to sustain the feeding and school support initiatives.

A BRIGHTER AND MORE EQUITABLE FUTURE FOR A GIRL

Introduction

At Sheepcare Community Centre, we remain committed to empowering vulnerable girls through education. The project “Help 100 Girls Complete Primary School” was launched to address the high dropout rates among girls in informal settlements due to poverty, early marriages, and domestic responsibilities. With your support through GlobalGiving, we continue to bridge the educational gap for underprivileged girls and give them a fair chance to shape their futures.

Progress Update

- School Attendance & Retention: Over 90% of the targeted girls have consistently attended school.
-We have managed to establish a working partnership with Talitha Teens Foundation; who have really helped to deal with trauma and various challenges among the girls.
- Provision of School Supplies: we managed to provide over 150 girls with School uniforms, sanitary pads, shoes, textbooks, and stationery were provided.
- Mentorship and Life Skills Workshops: In Partnership with Talitha Teens Foundation, we held 2 Workshop sessions on self-esteem, menstrual hygiene, and positive choices
- Parental Engagement: we conducted one Community meeting and visited 38 homes to increase parental support.

Success Story

Meet Margaret, a 14-year-old girl from Soweto Slums in our grade 8, who once faced dropping out due to a lack of school fees and responsibilities at home. Through our intervention, Maragaret received full school support and mentorship. Today, she ranks among the top 10 in her class and dreams of becoming a nurse. Margaret’s story mirrors many others who have found hope and stability through this initiative.

Challenges

- Rising Cost of Living: Inflation has increased the cost of food and school materials.
- Poverty at Home: Some girls miss school to support their families with chores or petty trading.
- Psychosocial Needs: Some girls have endured trauma and need ongoing counseling support.
- Look forward to partner with like-minded organizations to expand psychosocial support services.
- Strengthening the mentorship program by connecting the girls to mentors who will be intentional to walk with them and help them navigate through life challenges.
- We look forward to expand our support to the girls even as they transition to secondary school.
