Update on Girls' Dormitory

By TRACEY NEALE-FERREIRA | Project Leader

A trip to the river
A trip to the river

Dear Friends

Thank you so much for the incredible role you have played in creating our girls’ dormitory.  This is a safe and welcoming home for girls who could not safely remain in their own home environments.

Because of your generosity, these girls now have something every child deserves: security, stability and the chance to simply focus on being young.

Life in the dormitory is thriving. Evenings are filled with homework, extra tuition from kind volunteers, and even computer lessons that are opening up exciting new opportunities. There is plenty of laughter too with board games like Scrabble and Chess being firm favourites.  Friendly competitions are becoming part of dorm life!

The girls are also learning how to live and grow together as a family. They help prepare meals, wash up afterwards, and the older girls naturally look out for the younger ones. Each day between 5:30 and 7:00 everyone has chores either watering plants, washing uniforms or feeding the dogs and rabbits.  These small responsibilities are building confidence and important life skills.

Our wonderful Matron, who has been with us for over a decade and is our longest-serving staff member, provides steady care and warmth. Under her guidance, the dormitory has become a place where the girls feel happy, safe, and truly at home.

We also make sure there are special treats and adventures along the way with chapatis now and then, perhaps a day outing to the woods or the river and there's always lots of excitement whenever volunteers come to visit as they spoil them with attention and kindness.

Thanks to you, this dormitory is not just a building it is a sanctuary, a community, and a brighter future. You have helped create something truly good, and the girls are deeply grateful.

With all our thanks
