Project Progress Report
Title: Hand Pumps for Persons with Disabilities for WASH
Implementing Organization: National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan
Location: Nawabshah, Sindh, Pakistan
1. Overview: The “Hand Pumps for Persons with Disabilities” project, supported via GlobalGiving, aims to provide clean and accessible water sources to households of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in under-resourced communities of Nawabshah, Sindh. Access to safe drinking water is not only a WASH issue but a dignity and independence issue for PWDs who often face systemic barriers in reaching communal or distant water sources.
2. Impact
Increased access to clean water for over 24 individuals, including PWDs, women, and children in 5 villages.
PWDs now experience improved hygiene, reduced dependency on others for water collection, and reduced risk of infections and isolation.
Caregivers report a drop in waterborne illness cases and increased time for income-generating or caregiving tasks.
