Dear Friend!
This project responds to a humanitarian emergency unfolding on the outskirts of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. A refugee and internally displaced persons’ camp has been established there, currently sheltering approximately 450 people, including many children. The families fled from the northern regions of the country, escaping brutal terrorist attacks that have devastated their villages and shattred their sense of safety.
These people arrived with almost nothing. To survive and rebuild their lives, they urgently need food, hygiene supplies, clothing, and access to education for their children. Through this project, all funds raised are transferred to trusted missionaries working locally, who ensure that the aid is used directly for the most urgent needs and for covering school-related costs for children. Total goal on this stage was €5,142. Amount remaining: €81. Project durationis 5 years. Every single contribution—regardless of size—has brought this project closer to its goal and closer to restoring dignity and hope to families who have lost everything. The reality is that the refugees still need help. As an NGO we would like to deliver them more assistance to gain long-term effects: to provide education for their children and at least small job for the parents to make them feel more self - confident and regain self-sufficiency.
Challenge
Over the past year, terrorist violence against civilians in Burkina Faso has intensified dramatically, resulting in a tenfold increase in displaced persons. Entire communities have been forced to flee from the north toward the capital in search of safety.
The people living in this camp originate from the province of Bourgangha, village of Pisile, where terrorists carried out a massacre. Nine people were killed, many others injured, and survivors escaped in fear for their lives. Most of the displaced are Muslim families, now living together in extreme precarity.
The camp is located approximately 8 km from Polish missionaries, who became the first reliable point of support for the refugees. Without immediate assistance, the lack of food, hygiene facilities, and schooling would expose the community—especially children—to hunger, disease, trauma, and long-term social exclusion.
Solution
The goal of this project is to provide rapid, life-sustaining support during the most critical initial months of displacement. Specifically, the project focuses on:
Supplying basic food products to ensure daily nourishment
Providing hygiene items and sanitary protection, especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic
Supporting access to local schools so that children can continue their education despite displacement
The assistance is planned for a six-month period, giving families time to stabilize, recover physically and psychologically, and begin searching for work. As adults gradually find employment, families will be able to leave the camp one by one and regain self-sufficiency.
The first months after displacement are decisive. This project ensures that they are not months of despair, hunger, illness, or stagnation, but rather the beginning of a new chapter.
Thanks to timely support:
Families can live in safe and hygienic conditions, preserving their health and dignity
Adults are physically able to seek work and rebuild independence
Children are enrolled in school, preventing educational gaps and protecting them from aimlessness, exploitation, or violence
Education gives children not only knowledge, but hope and direction—a real chance for a better future beyond trauma and loss.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your generosity has translated directly into food on tables, hygiene for families, and school access for children who have endured unimaginable hardship. You did not turn away—you chose compassion, solidarity, and action.
Because of you, this refugee camp is not only a place of survival, but a place where hope has taken root again.
With sincere gratitude and respect to every donor who made this project possible, especially to You!
