Following the floods in January, our community faced significant challenges. However, we are grateful that our farm has continued to grow from strength to strength. The land recovered well, and food production remained stable during this difficult period. During this time, we were also able to install JoJo water tanks to capture and store rainwater from the heavy rainfall.
This resilience highlights the importance of sustainable systems that protect our community during times of crisis.
Our farmers continue to work closely with the land—planting seeds, caring for crops, and harvesting fresh produce. Healthy soil and responsible farming practices are central to our sustainability goals.
We are proud to share that solar systems are already operational at Sigagule ( we need to upgrade our system to go completely off grid) and Makrepeni, significantly reducing our grid electricity. These installations demonstrate that renewable energy solutions are both practical and impactful in rural settings.
We are now in the process of converting our borehole pumps to solar power as well. This will allow us to draw water sustainably using clean energy, further reducing electricity costs and minimizing our environmental footprint.
In addition, we are developing grey water recycling systems so that wastewater from showers and toilets can be reused for irrigation. Together, these systems — solar energy, rainwater harvesting, borehole solar pumps, and grey water recycling — form the foundation of our off-grid strategy.
