Friends,
We have received the following report about the ongoing construction of a dam in central Afghanistan. Bamyan Foundation held a fundraiser (https://goto.gg/f/71330) this summer to provide support for this community-led initiative. Jawed Nazari prepared the report on behalf of our community in Afghanistan.

Introduction and Overview
This report shares the story and progress of our earthen water dam project in the Bom area of central Afghanistan (village name withheld for safety). The goal was to build a dam to store spring and rainwater, allowing the community to irrigate fields and orchards during the dry months. This was because years of severe drought have dried our land. Many wheat fields and orchards stopped producing. Old trees are dying, and new ones cannot survive. Families have been digging deeper each year to find water, and many were ready to leave their homes. We decided to act. This dam is our community’s solution to save water when it comes and use it when we need it.
I am happy to report that, with strong community support of around $170k and the Bamyan Foundation’s timely contribution of $2,400, the main body of the dam is now almost complete. The funding was crucial and arrived just when it was needed, enabling us to pay the contractor and keep the work moving forward.

What Remains
To complete the project safely and effectively, we still need to:
A Note of Gratitude
Our community sincerely thanks the Bamyan Foundation, our partners, and all donors for standing with us. Your help came at a critical time. Thanks to your support and our community, the main structure is nearly complete. Every contribution is a drop of hope for our families and a step toward restoring life to our land.

And last but not least, I would like to share a generous matching opportunity with you.
Bamyan Foundation is participating in GlobalGiving’s Safer World Fund matching campaign this Fall. All donations up to $1,000 per donor to our project “Support Girl’s Education in Afghanistan” will be matched 100% while matching funds remain. $500 becomes $1,000 and $100 becomes $200. Please consider making a donation. All of the funds raised will be allocated to support our underground schools for girls in Afghanistan in the academic year 2026.
Thank you for your generous support over the years that has allowed our team to continue this meaningful work.
With gratitude,
Timor + the Bamyan Foundation team
