Dear Friend,
Thanks to the support of donors like you, Khana Ghar, one of our projects had 72 days of food deliveries in the previous quarter! This means 1800 elderly people and 3000 children received hot, delicious, and nutritious meals six days a week! This project relies entirely on donor support to stay up and running, and we are very grateful for your support that allows this project to continue.
We love sharing stories of the beneficiaries and how you have been making a positive impact on the Goa slum community. Recently, while delivering food to a slum located next to Margao railway station, our team encountered an elderly woman cooking on the ground. She told the team that she was cooking Brinjal which she collected from the vegetable market that was discarded as she had nothing else to cook. We inquired about her work, she said she sells toys by moving around but most of the time nobody buys them and also she admitted that she is not strong enough to move around further she also added that her husband is handicapped and he sits on the railway platform to beg.
When the team told her that they had brought her delicious hot meals, she was overjoyed and said, “God bless you all, God bless you all my son, when we are starving with hunger and you’ll appear to us to help and give a hope.” Now every afternoon she and her husband come to collect the food packets. The elderly woman says that “since the day you met us and until the date we never slept with an empty stomach. A story like this illustrates how important the work El Shaddai and the team does for the people of the Goa Slum community.
Because of widespread poverty, unemployment, and rising food costs due to inflation, we see people in Goa living in slums, sick people and children dwelling on pavements and families who has no income finding it hard to get at least one meal for a day. There are plenty of children, old and sick people begging at the Bus Station and Railway Station, in front of temples and mosques with empty stomachs. We also observe that children are malnourished and at risk of malnutrition.
El Shaddai ensures the neglected/destitute are happy for this kind of help and able to eat food on time. They stay healthy and enjoy a warm, nutritious, tasty meal. The team wants to give this experience to as many children and families in the slums located in North and South Goa as they possibly can.
With your continued support, the Khana Ghar can remain operational and bring meals, nutrition, and smiles to children and families in need.
