House of Hope - A way out for homeless women

Help us feed and empower abandoned women in Goa

Thanks to the donations that are continuously collected through this platform, we have been able to continue to provide various forms of help and support to women who are in need of care and protection. Donations allow us to respond adequately and in real time to the still increasing needs of women as a result of the still current Covid 19 pandemic.

While the world’s attention is focused on COVID-19, this other scourge is growing. Lockdowns and stay-at-home orders may be crucial in limiting and preventing the spread of COVID-19, but they also have a devastating impact on women and girls living with the risk of violence. Our team at El Shaddai is regularly monitoring the situation in rural areas and putting all the efforts to stop any kind of violence and is also helping women those who are in need. Women and girls currently living at our Shelter Home are all fine and our team is making all the efforts to keep them engaged, and physically and mentally fit. All the women at Shelter home have a feel safe place while they cope with their personal problems.

The money raised through the platform from the beginning of November until today has been used to provide nutritious meal, snacks, clothes, vocational training equipments and materials, counseling services, healthcare facilities, etc. for which the organization did not have sufficient funds.

Finally, after two years of the virus pandemic, crisis has not decreased. The need for financial and material assistance remains high. Nevertheless, we are making every effort to secure funding and continue to help women in need. This certainly has not been possible without your support. We greatly appreciate your trust in El Shaddai and for supporting our project.

Neha is thankful for your generous support

Dear Patron,

This is Neha's (Name changed) story.

Neha hails from a small village in Maharashtra, India. Her family got her married at the age of 14 since they considered her as a burden. She along with her husband migrated to Goa in search of job to keep them alive. Their living condition was very miserable as they hardly could eat one meal a day and no proper shelter and were staying in an open area near the bus stop. Within 5 years of their marriage, her husband passed away leaving Neha and his 3 little children to beg. Neha’s father is alcoholic and does not want to support Neha and her children nor does any of her family members want to help her. Neha became very helpless and used to beg on the street with her 3 children. There were times they had to remain hungry for the entire day. One of the local police seeing her begging every day felt pity and decided to contact House of Hope - Women’s shelter where she could get some sort of assistance. Our staffs spoke with her and encouraged her to stay in women’s shelter. We have also admitted her 3 children in our children’s home where they are getting all the basic needs and are well nourished. Under the aegis of El Shaddai her 3 children are also enrolled in school and are learning to speak in Hindi and English. Staffs in-charge of the shelter have gone out of their way to help and comfort her. It has been 1 year she is staying with us. She is very active with her chores and routine, keeps herself clean which at one time seemed all impossible. She is also a loving mother despite all odds.

We hope Neha can start her life afresh for her children and herself, become independent some day!

We are so very thankful to you for helping our project. Lives of many women and their children are changing every day because of the people like you.

Rani's Journey towards New future

Dear Patrons,

Hope you are in Good health

We at El Shaddai are trying our level best to better the lives of the marginalised and poor women living in Goa.

Rani is a 60 year old women originating from Karwar, Karnataka. Rani got married to an aged man at the age of 13 soon after demise of her parents as she had no one to support her living. Just few years of her marriage, she lost her husband and the cause of his death is unknown. She was living with her son who is also married and has two kids. Her daughter-in-law has abandoned the family since last year leaving Rani with the responsibility of looking after her grandsons. Rani’s son works as a labour and his earnings is not sufficient to feed the family as his work is not stable. The local police approached us for help when he saw both mother and son along with his 2 little kids sleeping at the bus station and sitting along the footpath begging for food.

Rani is currently staying at House of Hope and enjoying her stay with us where she gets all the 3 meals on time, regular check-up of her health is done and most importantly she has a safe shelter to stay. Her 2 grandsons were quickly admitted into our Children’s Home where they are offered comfort, companionship, nourishing food, Education and the possibility of a secure future. After coming here she says that her life is much better than staying on the streets without food and shelter. She is very grateful to El Shaddai and wonderful donors like you for providing her with all the basic necessities. She is now working with us as a helper in our office and enjoys her stay and work. She is one among the many women who are supported by El Shaddai.
