Lifeline for Equality: Hunger Relief Fund

With recent,

Here is our project report

Since the launch of the Lifeline for Equality: Hunger Relief Fund, Mbarara Rise Foundation has actively responded to urgent food insecurity among LGBTIQ individuals in rural Uganda. Following the passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2024, many community members have faced eviction, loss of livelihoods, and threats to their safety, creating a critical need for immediate intervention. Our team quickly mobilized resources to provide emergency food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies, ensuring that vulnerable individuals could meet their basic needs.

To reach those most at risk, the project established safe distribution points and coordinated with local partners to deliver food packages that included maize flour, beans, rice, and basic household items. Special attention was given to transgender women, LGBTIQ youth, and people living with HIV, who face heightened vulnerability due to discrimination and health needs. In addition to meeting immediate nutritional requirements, these measures provided a sense of safety and stability for those displaced or living under constant threat.

Beyond direct relief, the project has emphasized community engagement and monitoring to ensure accountability and responsiveness. Local volunteers helped identify urgent cases and facilitate safe deliveries, while feedback from beneficiaries guided improvements in distribution processes. These efforts have strengthened trust within the community and ensured that aid reaches those who need it most, even in remote or isolated areas.

Despite these successes, the demand for emergency support continues to grow. Rising food prices, ongoing displacement, and new cases of evictions mean more individuals require immediate assistance. Continued donor support is essential to expand reach, sustain relief efforts, and restore dignity and hope to those facing hunger and insecurity. Your contribution directly helps save lives and empowers the LGBTIQ community in rural Uganda.

KInd regards
