With your generous financial support, the Improve Girls’ Education in Ethiopia project has delivered critical, life-changing assistance to highly vulnerable girls affected by conflict in the Amhara Region.
Your contribution has enabled MHO to provide essential educational materials, accommodation and transportation support, and female hygiene supplies—addressing urgent barriers that prevent girls from attending and remaining in school. Beyond meeting these immediate needs, the project has restored dignity and hope, allowing girls who were displaced or disrupted by conflict to enroll in school, return to class, and continue their education with confidence. For many families, this support has eased overwhelming financial pressure and protected girls’ right to learn at a time when education is most at risk.
The ongoing armed conflict, compounded by drought and displacement, has left more than 4.1 million children out of school in the Amhara Region, with girls disproportionately affected. In this fragile context, the education crisis is closely linked to rising violence against women and girls (VAWG). Structurally marginalized and internally displaced girls face heightened risks of early marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), conflict-related sexual violence, and violations of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Your support has helped address these intersecting risks by keeping girls in school and providing them with protection-focused assistance. Education, combined with dignity kits, reproductive health education, and mentorship, has proven to be a powerful safeguard—reducing vulnerability while empowering girls to envision a safer and more hopeful future.
During this reporting period alone, MHO reached over 98 underprivileged girls, both in-school and out-of-school, across conflict-affected communities. Through your donation, girls received education support, female hygiene supplies, noon meals, transportation subsidies, and access to reproductive health education and mentoring schemes. These integrated services have directly supported school enrollment, improved attendance, and alleviated the multiple vulnerabilities faced by poor and displaced girls. Many beneficiaries are now attending school regularly, learning alongside their peers, and gaining the knowledge and confidence needed to protect themselves and pursue their aspirations.
This impact would not have been possible without your indispensable generosity. Your support is not only changing individual lives—it is protecting girls, strengthening communities, and defending the fundamental right to education in one of Ethiopia’s most challenging contexts.
