Dear Valued Donors,
Literacy is the fundamental driver of every positive change that education brings to mankind. It is the foundation upon which all other learning is built. At BMAN, we believe that providing at-risk children with the ability to read and write is the most effective way to break the generational cycle of poverty.
Studies show that basic literacy skills alone could lift as many as 171 million people out of poverty globally. This quarter, despite significant logistical hurdles, we have remained committed to expanding this project across urban and rural communities to ensure our children are equipped with these life-changing skills. Your support has kept our classrooms open, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
The Vision: Equipping At-Risk Children
Our Literacy Project is designed to go beyond basic ABCs. We aim to foster a deep, functional proficiency in language that allows children to navigate the world with confidence. Our curriculum is structured around five core pillars:
Writing Skills Development: Transitioning from basic lettering to structured expression.
Reading Recovery Programs: Targeted support for children who have fallen behind their age-appropriate reading levels.
Speaking Skills Development: Building the confidence to articulate thoughts clearly and persuasively.
Comprehension Skills & Strategies: Ensuring children don't just "read" words, but truly understand and analyze the context.
Listening Skills Development: Enhancing the ability to process information and follow instructions.
Quarterly Update: Adaptation and Resilience
This quarter, we successfully continued our literacy sessions; however, we faced a major logistical challenge regarding the transportation costs for our participants.
Many of the children we serve live in remote or impoverished areas where the cost of commuting to our center has become a significant barrier to attendance. To ensure that these children did not drop out of the program entirely, we made the strategic decision to condense our sessions.
Current Status:
Weekly Schedule: We shifted to a 4-hour weekly intensive literacy class.
Impact of Logistics: While we previously aimed for more hours, the increase in transportation costs necessitated this reduction to keep the program accessible for the families who need it most.
Continued Progress: Despite the reduced hours, our tutors have focused on "high-impact" sessions, ensuring that the core curriculum—especially Reading Recovery and Writing—is still being delivered effectively.
Looking Ahead: New Classes for the New Quarter
As we move into the coming quarter, our goal is to refresh the program and launch a new class session. We are currently reviewing our logistics to see how we can better support transportation for these at-risk children, as we know that more time in the classroom leads to faster results.
Our commitment to these children remains absolute. We are working to secure additional funding to help offset these transportation costs, allowing us to potentially increase our contact hours once again.
Thank You for Your Partnership
Your donations provide the books, the tutors, and the safe space where these children discover the power of their own voices. Thank you for helping us turn "at-risk" children into "empowered" readers and writers.
With sincere gratitude
