Bathroom under construction at Our Lady of Mercy
Dear Supporters,
Work has started on Prevent Period Poverty's sanitation block (bathroom) at St. Joseph's Musokoto Secondary School. The foundation is being poured and soon the block walls will be built as in the photo from Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School. Along with the bathroom, students will be provided with menstrual health classes and products.
Many girls miss school when they have their periods. This often leads to poor grades, not graduating, early marriages and pregnancies. This is often referred to as "Period Poverty". Grow Against Poverty's program is working towards eliminating Period Poverty in Busia County, Kenya.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated so that this program can be started in more schools.

Bathrooms Make a Difference!

Dear Donors,
St. Anne’s Kisoko Secondary School was next in line for the construction of a bathroom funded by Grow Against Poverty. Great news! The school has benefited from government funding for a sanitation block. We’d like to think that our involvement helped to get this project going. Grow Against Poverty will keep active at this school providing classes and menstrual health products. We will continue to work along with the nonprofit organization, CouldYou?, in these areas.
Our focus is now St. Joseph Musokoto Secondary School, which has an equally urgent need for improved menstrual hygiene management (MHM) infrastructure. There are over 800 students at this school with limited bathroom facilities. Having bathrooms with water helps improve attendance and academics. There is a better chance for female students to graduate and proceed to university or other higher education programs. A video about the Prevent Period Poverty program at the school will be produced to help with fundraising to build bathrooms at other schools.
Your continued support for this program is truly appreciated by students, their families and communities.

Build Another Bathroom

Dear Supporters,
The bathroom constructed by Grow Against Poverty at Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary School has already helped to improve attendance and academics. As word has travelled about the Prevent Period Poverty program, more schools have requested bathrooms. A report from our partner organization, Grow Against Poverty-Kenya follows:
"Our next school to receive the Prevent Period Poverty Program is St. Anne's Kisoko Secondary School. The school currently has 1500 students, spanning from Form 1 to Form 4 (high school grades 9-12) all of whom are boarders with only two sanitation facilities serving the entire population. The school has 67 teachers with the female teachers sharing one of the current facilities with the girls. Constructing the new Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) facility addresses a critical infrastructural gap and distributing reusable menstrual cups would further ensure the girls can manage their menstrual health with dignity and without disruption to their education." Nigel, Volunteer, Grow Against Poverty-Kenya
Thanks for supporting Prevent Period Poverty.
