Dear friends,
At Project Soar, we’re on a mission to uplift and empower teen girls so they can build bright futures for themselves and their communities. But for too many girls, that path is blocked by silence, stigma, and a lack of basic information, especially when it comes to menstrual and reproductive health.
Across Morocco and around the world, countless girls begin puberty without the knowledge they need to care for their bodies. Cultural taboos, limited resources, and period shame leave them confused, isolated, and vulnerable. This is the harsh reality of period poverty, a global issue affecting over 500 million people.
To help break this cycle, Project Soar created Ask Marwa - an innovative, AI-powered WhatsApp chatbot designed in collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Health and the United Nations Population Fund . Ask Marwa provides confidential, culturally sensitive answers to questions about menstruation and puberty, all in a format that’s safe, easy to use, and accessible to girls across the country.
This tool is a game-changer, meeting girls where they are, in a format they trust, and giving them the information they deserve to manage their bodies with confidence and dignity.
“Every girl deserves safe, judgment-free access to information about her own body. Ask Marwa is a virtual friend—a trusted ally helping girls break taboos and make empowered choices,”
- Maryam Montague, Project Soar Founder and Executive Director.
We’re so excited about this new chapter and can’t wait to officially launch Ask Marwa in fall 2025, reaching thousands of girls and young women across Morocco!
As always, thank you for standing with us as we tackle period poverty. Your continued support fuels this mission, and we’re deeply grateful to have you in our community. Stay tuned for more updates and never doubt the impact you’re making.
With gratitude,
The Project Soar Team
