The Mission Continues: SYS Field Update

At the Support Yemeni Society Organization, we are driven by a singular, urgent mission: to combat cholera and safeguard the lives of those most vulnerable. The Current Landscape

Yemen’s healthcare infrastructure continues to face unprecedented pressure. A combination of ongoing conflict and compromised sanitation has led to a surge in vector-borne and infectious fevers.

Dengue Fever: Now endemic, with over 12,000 cases and dozens of fatalities reported as we entered 2026.
Persistent Threats: Malaria, Chikungunya, and Cholera remain critical risks, particularly for internally displaced populations.

Our Field Operations: Putting Your Support to Work

Because of your generosity, our teams remain active on the front lines. Here is how your contributions are being transformed into action:

Targeted Awareness: We have intensified our outreach in the Sana’a Capital Secretariat. By engaging directly with farmers and high-risk families, we have distributed over 2,000 educational materials focusing on water purification and life-saving hygiene protocols.
Essential Supplies: We successfully delivered hygiene kits—including soap, chlorine, and Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS)—to rural families who are often bypassed by traditional aid routes.
Clinical Stabilization: We are bolstering local health centers by ensuring a steady supply of IV fluids and ORS, ensuring that no patient is turned away due to a lack of basic medicine.

Success Story: A Mother’s Resilience

In a small village on the outskirts of Sana’a, Amina, a mother of four, watched her youngest son fall dangerously ill with acute watery diarrhea. With the local clinic miles away and resources scarce, she feared the worst.

Through your support, the SYS field team reached her village just in time. We provided Amina with an emergency hygiene kit and, more importantly, the training to treat her son’s dehydration using ORS. Within 48 hours, his fever broke and he began to recover. "I felt helpless," Amina told our team, "But today I feel I have the tools to keep my children safe."

Amina is just one of thousands who now have a fighting chance because of you.

Help Us Sustain the Fight Against Cholera in Yemen

The Cholera Epidemic in Yemen: A Continuing Threat (End of 2025)

By the end of 2025, Yemen will continue to face a severe and alarming cholera outbreak, exacerbated by ongoing conflict, displacement, and deteriorating infrastructure.

Global Rank: According to the latest health reports, Yemen ranks second globally in cholera outbreaks.

Hotspots: UN reports have highlighted that the Capital Secretariat, particularly the Bani Al-Harith district, is among the hotbeds registering the highest infection rates due to poor sanitation services and contaminated water sources.

This epidemiological decline underscores that the need for support today is more urgent than ever.

Our Continuous Field Efforts Thanks to Your Support

Thanks to your crucial support, the SYS team continues to work actively in the most affected areas. Here is an update on our key initiatives until the end of October 2025:

1. Comprehensive Awareness Campaigns

We intensified direct and field awareness campaigns in the Bani Al-Harith district, Capital Secretariat, focusing on farmers and families in high-risk areas.

The goal is to educate them on essential hygiene practices and water safety.

More than 2,500 awareness materials (posters and flyers) focusing on the importance of water purification and handwashing were distributed.

2. Distribution of Hygiene Kits and Supplies

Despite logistical challenges, we secured and distributed essential hygiene supplies (soap, chlorine, ORS) to 50 vulnerable families in rural areas within Sana'a.

3. Support for Health Centers

We are working to ensure the continuous availability of essential intravenous fluids (IV fluids) and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) in primary health facilities receiving cholera and acute diarrheal cases.

As of 2025, Yemen continues to face a severe cholera outbreak, compounded by ongoing conflict, displacement, and limited access to clean water and sanitation. According to the World Health Organization, from January 1 to May 25, 2025, there have been 18,286 reported cholera cases across multiple governorates. The WHO has highlighted how the ongoing conflict and inadequate sanitation infrastructure have intensified this crisis.

With your support, the SYS team is actively working on the ground in the most affected areas, particularly in Sana'a and Taiz Governorates. Our recent initiatives include:
Comprehensive Awareness Campaigns: Focusing on hygiene, safe water practices, and early treatment, we have distributed leaflets, posters, and other materials in public spaces.
Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaigns: While we have conducted vaccination drives in several areas, the demand still surpasses the available supply.
Hygiene Kits Distribution: We have provided hygiene kits to 30 vulnerable individuals in Sana'a.
IV Fluid Distribution: We are ensuring that those in need have access to essential intravenous fluids.
