Dear Supporters and Partners,
In the hierarchy of human needs, shelter is the foundation upon which everything else is built. It is impossible to focus on education, health, or employment when the roof over your head is incomplete or your walls offer no protection from the elements.
At BMAN, we believe that adequate housing is not a luxury; it is a fundamental right that serves as the first step in breaking the cycle of poverty. However, this past quarter has been one of our most difficult. As economic pressures mount, more families are being forced into uncompleted structures that offer little more than a floor and a ceiling. We are writing to share the reality of these families and our urgent plan to restore their safety.
The Critical Need: Beyond Just Four WallsThis project was created to provide a "Safe Housing Fund" for families living in unfinished houses in suburban and rural communities. In these areas, we see a growing trend of "shelter poverty," where families occupy uncompleted structures because they cannot afford the rising costs of rentals or finished homes.
Living in an uncompleted structure is not just uncomfortable—it is dangerous. Without windows, doors, or secure walls, families are exposed to:
Environmental Hazards: Rain, wind, and disease-carrying insects.
Security Risks: Theft, animal intrusions, and physical harm.
Loss of Dignity: The psychological toll of living in a space that feels like a ruin rather than a home.
The last quarter (July – September) was exceptionally challenging for our shelter initiative. Due to a significant shortfall in available funds, we were unable to fulfill the urgent requests for assistance that came to our desk.
The "Window" Crisis:
Most of the requests we received this quarter were for basic security features—specifically, the installation of windows. For a family in an uncompleted building, a window is not an aesthetic choice; it is a life-saving barrier. Many families were forced to continue living in structures with gaping holes, leaving children particularly vulnerable to the elements and intruders. It is heartbreaking to report that we could not provide the help they sought during this period.
Current Status & The Path ForwardAs we enter a new quarter of the year, the situation remains urgent:
Waiting List: We currently have 12 families in our immediate database who are in desperate need of basic structural interventions (windows, doors, or minor roofing).
Q4 Goal: Our immediate objective is to raise enough funds to provide for at least one or two of these families before the end of this quarter.
Cost-Effective Intervention: By focusing on wholesale materials and community labor, a relatively small donation can transform an uncompleted structure into a secure home.
We view these families not as statistics, but as mothers, fathers, and children who deserve to sleep through the night without fear. We thank our past donors for their support, and we appeal to our community to help us address the needs of the 12 families currently waiting.
Your support can provide the window that keeps a child safe or the door that offers a family dignity.
With sincere gratitude,
