Yazan and Abdelrahman, two Study Aid Recipients, began their internships in Kuala Lumpur in October 2025. Living off-campus added financial and adjustment challenges in the new city. The Study Aid Project provided stability during their transition, helping them overcome initial constraints to focus on professional development. This hands-on experience allowed them to gain crucial employability skills and thrive.
Yazan, 24, – Business Development and Project Coordination
During this reporting period, Yazan undertook an internship with the International Cultural Communication Center Malaysia (ICCCM), an educational association focused on providing universities with international cooperation opportunities. The organisation delivers international mobility programmes and regularly organises international conferences, competitions, and capacity-building workshops.
Yazan serves as a Business Administration major and Business Development and Project Coordinator, gaining exposure to international stakeholder and partnership development. His market-relevant skills include business development, partnership building, project coordination, event planning, cross-cultural collaboration, and administrative/organisational abilities.
Beyond his core responsibilities, Yazan contributed to several high-impact events and activities, gaining exposure to real-world professional environments at national, international, and diplomatic levels. Notable experiences included engagement with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to explore higher education collaborations, participation in the Russian–Malaysian Youth Cooperation Dialogue at the International Youth Center, Kuala Lumpur, and involvement in the Swiss Innovation Challenge, where he gained exposure to innovation-driven problem-solving and pitching processes.
As an intern/student, Yazan experienced a steep learning curve during this internship. He reported the need to adapt to a new organisational culture, professional ethics, and the demands of a long daily commute of approximately two hours by train. Despite these challenges, Yazan remains determined to complete his internship successfully, which is scheduled to conclude on 6 January, demonstrating resilience, commitment, and strong professional growth.
Abdelrahman, 22, – Web Development Internship
Abdelrahman is doing his internship as a Web Development Intern with Palestinian Forum Malaysia (PFM), a registered non-profit organisation working across national advocacy, humanitarian relief, education, social support, cultural preservation, and sports initiatives for the Palestinian community in Malaysia.
In this role, as a Computer Science major, Abdelrahman contributed to the development and enhancement of PFM’s official website and mobile application. His work focused on building user-friendly digital platforms to strengthen community engagement, improve access to information, and support PFM’s humanitarian and educational programmes. Some of his key learning include website and mobile application development, platform responsiveness, secure data handling, performance optimization, and accessibility design.
Currently, Abdelrahman is expanding PFM's digital presence by working on additional website pages and application features to ensure they can fully support the organisation's community programs and humanitarian work. Abdelrahman shares the biggest challenges during the internship as juggling multiple projects simultaneously, working independently, and consistently meeting deadlines. Abdelrahman is set to finish his internship in March 2026.
As a result of their internship experiences, both students reported feeling increased confidence, a stronger professional identity, and a clearer sense of career direction.
