The basics are key

Getting the basics right
Our pre-school continues to go from strength to strength with a lot of emphasis on manual dexterity. Independence Day celebrations were undertaken in September with local values and traditions a key part of the classes building up to the big day. Our assistant local teacher has really shown her value as our overcrowded classes receive help from her.
This year’s Annual Appeal is dedicated to our daily food and fruit program with the aim to provide now and sustainably in the future: how? For every $25 donated to this page one child will receive the daily food and fruit we provide each year and we will also plant a fruit tree which will continue giving in the future. Many thanks for your donations in advance and together we can sustain daily food for the children.

On Wednesday July 15th, Global Giving will match donations made through this page up to $1,000 per donor based on the organization’s Partner Rewards level: as we are Superstars we get 50% extra per donation, whilst available funds last!. There is $115,000 available in matching funds and GlobalGiving are offering a $1,000 bonus award for the project with most individual donors and a $1,000 bonus award for the most money raised. Matching begins at 9:00:01 EDT and lasts until funds run out or 23:59:59 EDT.
Your donations allow us to continue to with out pre-school here in Nicaragua. Recently, earthquake and other emergency practices were undertaken in the school as the rainy season approaches and often the river near the community bursts its banks, leaving many homeless. Our pre-school continues at pace with our hope to add another teacher assistant for the remainder of the year. Our sustainable Plan Ciber, an internet café, now covers our monthly fruit costs.
Thank you for your support thus far and thank you now for helping us build a better future.
cheers

Community fundraising on 6th June

Happy to learn
As part of the Fly The Phoenix Seven Continent Charity Challenge on Saturday 6th June, the communities themselves will be undertaking events to raise awareness and funds. In Nicaragua our local teachers, students and families will be hiking around La Thompson and the surrounding hills. Please sponsor the communities as we strive to move towards sustainability over the next few years by donating to this page.
Progress is being made in leaps and bounds with the pre-schoolers in the school. Our local teachers are coping well with the increased numbers of children and we will be bringing in teacher assistants shortly to help with the workload. A lot of effort is being made in group learning and bonding (many households see violence and separation) so the children can see the school as a safe and fun place to be, whilst obviously learning the basics to read and write.
Thank you all for your support and please do sponsor the community as they take on their hike on 6th June. Cheers
