Te Acompano: Abortion Chatbot for Migrants

At Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC), we work to ensure that women and all people with reproductive capacity have the correct information, feel supported in their decisions, and have the confidence to access safe abortion and contraceptive services when they need them.  With your help, the Te Acompaño chatbot is making that possible every single day.

Since its launch in September 2023, the Te Acompaño chatbot has reached more than 14 915 people and facilitated over 13 925 conversations. This tool is actively used and promoted by approximately 14 civil society organizations and national, local, and regional health institutions that work side by side with migrant communities.

Te Acompaño is part of Ipas LAC’s Innovative Technology for Safe Abortion Communication efforts. It was created in response to the regional migration crisis to address the reproductive health needs of women and other people with reproductive capacity along major migration routes in Mexico. 

We are currently optimizing our chatbot by incorporating English language support. This improvement will allow us to broaden our reach, expand our message, and better support people who speak English—especially along key migration routes. Over the next few months, we will continue working on the technical configuration, and in our next report we will share the results achieved.

To keep strengthening and expanding this tool, we need your support and trust. Digital tools have become an essential pathway to safe abortion access for many women and people who can become pregnant, and we want to reach even more.

The chatbot provides crucial information on accessing reproductive health services, including:

• Interactive maps of public health facilities offering care for survivors of sexual violence.
• Information on public health services that provide access to safe abortion.
• A network of organizations supporting self-managed abortion with medication.
• Guidance on where and how to obtain safe abortion medication.

Why this matters: +41% of chatbot interactions come from Chiapas and Tabasco—states with high numbers of migrants—showing us that outreach efforts are working and that the tool is meeting people exactly where they are.
