Teach 3000 Indonesian Children to Read

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your ongoing support over the past months. Because of you, we can keep training teachers and sending books to schools, working together with local schools so Indonesian children can grow up loving to read.

On the move
In recent weeks most of our team has been in Kalimantan, running trainings in four different locations. Only two weeks later they returned to Kalimantan again, this time for the start of a program in another region. Our team in Kupang has also trained several partners, with more planned for October. These long term programs are important for us, as they often include mentoring. This mentoring is carried out by local facilitators (Fasda). Together with them we make sure what teachers learn during the training is integrated into daily classroom practice. That makes a real difference in the lives of these children.

Omi, Ubi, dan Syukur
Another result of the past few months is the bilingual book project Omi, Ubi, dan Syukur. This project is a collaboration with Monash University in Australia. The story follows Omi, a young girl who learns to grow cassava after a failed rice harvest and discovers the importance of gratitude even in difficult times. Through this story, children are introduced to themes like resilience, community, and the impact of climate change. We are very grateful for this collaboration, which makes it possible to bring books like this to children across Indonesia, supporting both their learning and awareness of important issues. You can read a news article about it here.

Ayo! Suka Membaca!

Thank you for your support over the past few months! Because of you, we can keep training teachers and sending books to schools: helping Indonesian children grow up with a love for reading.

Welcome 
A lot has happened in the past few months. An exciting change is that we’ve been able to welcome 3 new (part-time) team members. This is a big encouragement for our team, not only because it shows growth, but also because it allows us to do more of the work that really matters: training teachers, supporting schools, and getting good books into the hands of children. And just two weeks ago, two of them already got a taste of the reality on the ground by joining a local training of our team in a nearby city.

NTT - Pesta Literasi
At the same time, we’re getting ready to celebrate all the hard work in the Timor Suka Membaca project, now in its second year as part of a larger project in the east of Indonesia, led by our team in the Kupang office. Dozens of teachers will celebrate the progress they’ve made this year together with their students. During the Pesta Literasi (Literacy Celebration), students will showcase what they’ve learned through reading performances, games, and activities. It’s a joyful moment to celebrate learning, encourage reading, and strengthen the connection between schools, teachers, and the wider community.
