Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund

As we mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support of the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. Your generosity has been a beacon of hope for countless Ukrainians enduring the hardships of war.

Since the war began, we have mobilized more than $30 million in grants to more than 170 partners across Ukraine and throughout the surrounding region, reaching countless communities impacted by the war. Thanks to your support, we remain committed to providing sustained aid to Ukrainian communities well into the years ahead. In these challenging times, your support is more critical than ever. In addition to providing lifesaving emergency aid, education, and so many other avenues of support, your donation continues to make a positive impact on many lives. 

Among so many stories of impact, GlobalGiving partner Lifeline Ukraine has reopened its doors, resuming operations in Ukraine’s only dedicated suicide prevention hotline:

"For a brief period from April to June 2024, people in Ukraine struggling with some kind of emotional difficulties and needing emergency support had no suicide prevention hotline to turn to. It is for this reason that I refer to the grant from GlobalGiving as a “lifeline” for Lifeline Ukraine and for everyone who has come to find comfort in our existence."

Other partners like Happy Paw and Mission Kharkiv have also come to count on donors like you for support. When Happy Paw’s warehouse storing food and supplies for thousands of stray and abandoned animals in Ukraine was bombed in a recent missile strike, their team turned to GlobalGiving for support in rebuilding and continuing their critical work. Meanwhile, Mission Kharkiv’s critical work also received a grant to help deliver life-saving treatments to patients with cancer living in a warzone, and to maintain medical storage facilities to replace those damaged in the attacks. These acts of extraordinary courage and perseverance demonstrate the profound impact of sustained support for communities under siege. And it wouldn’t be possible without donors like you.   

In these challenging and volatile times, the need for comprehensive aid—including shelter, food, clean water, community services, and emotional —remains urgent.

Thank you for your generous contribution to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. As we approach the three-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, your donations continue to make a meaningful impact on our partners’ ability to address the needs of their communities each day. Moreover, your support offers a glimmer of hope and motivation for countless Ukrainian communities that are exhausted after more than 1,000 days of war.

Beyond the continued violence, our partners have also faced catastrophic floods this fall. Juggling both disasters was no small task—but our partners pushed through to serve their communities.

Since we last wrote, the GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund has made 35 new grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of responding to community needs.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported: 

• Odessa Charity Foundation Way Home provides emergency aid in war-torn eastern Ukraine, offering meals, clothes, and psychological support to families in Odessa, along with safe shelter in partnership with other nonprofits. Their team also runs a summer program—which trained 60 disadvantaged youth in agriculture and entrepreneurship this year.

• Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation installs hybrid solar stations in schools and hospitals and offers sustainability courses to students, with the joint goals of protecting communities during electricity blackouts and fostering a more environmentally sustainable Ukraine. 

• Ukrainian Down Syndrome Organization supports the families of individuals with Down Syndrome through relocation assistance, essential supplies, and medical care.  Each year, the organization hosts two camps and provides ongoing support for 100 families. The team’s newest goal is to renovate a space dedicated to disability-focused activities.

• SavED restores access to education in war-affected regions of Ukraine by setting up bomb shelters in schools and creating alternative classrooms. It offers online learning when needed, focusing on de-occupied areas and those near active conflict zones. The organization also conducts research on the war's impact on education, produces documentaries, and advocates internationally for the protection of children. 

• Krakow Food Bank is a central service provider in Krakow supporting the many Ukrainian refugees in Poland. Since the onset of the war, the organization has delivered 1.7 million meals, valued at $1.9 million USD, to Ukrainian refugees in Krakow. In collaboration with 70 partner nonprofits, they continue to provide ongoing food assistance in both Ukraine and Poland.

• Right to Protection Poland offers mental health services, cash assistance, legal support, and housing assistance for displaced refugees living in Poland.  Since 2023, the organization has stepped up in big ways to support its community as changes in national rental assistance laws have made it more difficult for refugees, like Ukrainians, to rent in Poland. 

• Mission Kharkiv has grown significantly since the start of the full-scale invasion, mobilizing over $52 million in donations into specialized oncology medicines for individuals affected by cancer on the frontlines of the war.  Currently, the organization manages underground spaces, which their team has converted into cold storage for cancer medications amid power outages in Kharkiv
