Food/Winter Packs for families in Afghanistan

Since 2021, Afghanistan has been facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with the situation deteriorating each day. Years of conflict, economic collapse, and natural disasters have left millions of families struggling to meet their most basic needs. More than half of the population is food insecure, and malnutrition rates among children and women remain alarmingly high.

To address these urgent needs, IBC continues to implement food security and emergency response initiatives across the country.

In Kabul, IBC provided life-saving food assistance to 100 displaced families (around 600 individuals) who had lost their livelihoods due to conflict, drought, and economic instability. Each family received a one-month food package designed to meet their basic nutritional needs and help them regain their strength and dignity.

Following the 6.0-magnitude earthquake in Nangarhar and Kunar Provinces in August 2025, IBC mobilized its local teams to respond rapidly. In coordination with the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) and local authorities, IBC reached another 100 affected families with essential support. Distributions included food parcels, tents, and blankets to help households rebuild their lives and restore a sense of stability. Through donations collected on GlobalGiving, an additional 22 blankets were purchased and distributed to those most in need.

Across both interventions, IBC prioritized vulnerable groups such as women-headed households, the elderly, and families with young children. These projects have not only provided immediate relief but also strengthened community resilience and food security in some of Afghanistan’s hardest-hit regions.

IBC continues its vital humanitarian work in Afghanistan, delivering relief to those most in need. This success is made possible by our strong operational capabilities across multiple provinces and our well-established presence on the ground. Our field teams are able to safely access remote areas through the support and acceptance of local communities, in coordination with other humanitarian actors operating in the field.

With your kind donations and the generous support of our donors, we successfully implemented our Ramadan Programme, reaching 450 families (approximately 2,700 individuals) with high-quality food parcels. In coordination with local officials, we identified the families and provinces most in need to ensure the aid reached the most vulnerable.

As part of the distribution, families in Kunduz and Mazar-i-Sharif received essential food items, including 10 kilograms of rice, 20 kilograms of flour, 5 litres of cooking oil, 7 kilograms of red beans, 1 kilogram of milk powder, 1 kilogram of tea, 5 kilograms of sugar, a packet of salt, a packet of dates, and two packets of pasta.

In addition, during the Qurbani period, we distributed 5 kilograms of fresh meat to each family, enabling them to partake in the Eid celebrations with dignity and proper nutrition. This effort brought much-needed support to vulnerable households during a time of spiritual and communal importance.

These activities have helped meet the urgent needs of many, but the overall humanitarian situation remains challenging. Many families continue to face severe hardship and require further assistance.
