Digital Literacy for Mambanje Primary School

For nearly two decades, African Bush Camps Foundation has supported Mambanje Primary School, fostering educational development and improving the quality of life for the Mambanje community. We have renovated classrooms and teachers’ accommodation and expanded the school nutrition program.

In 2025, African Bush Camps Foundation completed further renovations at Mambanje Primary School, including erecting a school fence and drilling a new borehole to secure access to clean drinking water for learners and teachers. We’ve built a fully equipped kitchen and dining shelter at the school to support daily meal preparation for learners. With running water, sinks, pots, utensils, and a storeroom, the new space enhances efficiency and hygiene. The new kitchen supports the daily nutrition program, providing two meals to learners, which encourages attendance and ensures that those who travel long distances can learn without hunger. The dining shelter offers a clean, shaded space where learners can eat safely, protected from the elements.

We are excited about our 2026 plan to build a computer lab that will provide learners with access to digital literacy, e-learning opportunities, and essential technology. This facility will introduce digital tools to expand access to modern education, bridge learning gaps, and equip learners with skills for future academic and career success. Additionally, we will continue delivering daily nutritious meals, conducting regular maintenance, and supplying necessary educational resources to ensure learners and teachers have everything needed for an effective learning experience.

Our ongoing efforts at Mambanje Primary School are actively improving the quality of education and reducing barriers to learning.

We Are Building a Life-Changing High School

Our goal is to keep learners in school beyond grade 7. Currently, the nearest high school is 12 miles (20 km) away from Maunga Village. For many families, the high costs of travel, boarding, and tuition make continuing education impossible, which forces many young learners to drop out after primary school.

We are building a high school in Maunga Village to give learners the chance to continue their education close to home. This will ease the financial burden on families and open doors to a brighter future.

Our expansion plan includes essential improvements such as a fully equipped science lab, additional classrooms, a new dormitory, and more housing for teachers. This year, we are excited to begin renovating the science lab: a critical step toward providing quality education.

Fully Equipped Science Lab: Construction and renovation of a science laboratory to enhance STEM education $45,000

Additional Classrooms: Building new classrooms to accommodate more learners and provide a conducive learning environment $40,000

Dormitory Facilities: Establishing boarding facilities to support and accommodate learners who live far from the school. $20,000

Teacher Housing: Adding more on-site housing to attract and retain qualified teachers. $50,000

This school will serve learners from Maunga Village and other surrounding villages who cannot access or afford schooling in Livingstone town.

Changing Lives Through Education

No Learner Left Behind in 2025

Thanks to your generous support, we have distributed over 1,000 school bags and stationery packs, ensuring every learner is equipped with the essential tools to thrive in their education. Because of the monthly supply of sanitary pads provided to our schools, not a single girl has missed school this year due to period poverty—a powerful step toward gender equality and uninterrupted learning.

Additionally, learners receive two nutritious meals each day, which not only encourages regular attendance but also helps them stay focused and energized in the classroom.

Building Safe and Thriving Schools

This quarter, we are thrilled to begin two important building projects that will transform the learning experience for children in Maunga and Mambanje.

At Maunga Primary School, we are constructing a new science lab as part of our plan to expand the school to include a secondary level. Currently, the nearest secondary school is 12 miles (20 km) away, and many families face prohibitive costs for travel, boarding, and tuition. This often forces young learners to leave school after primary education. By bringing secondary education closer to home, we will ease the financial burden on families and give students the opportunity to continue their education, opening doors to a brighter future.

At Mambanje Primary School, we are building a new dining shelter to support the Nutrition Program, which provides daily meals to learners. Until now, children have had to eat outside, exposed to the sun and rain. This new shelter will offer a clean, comfortable, and safe space for meals, helping to boost attendance and support their learning.

Together, these projects will create safer, more nurturing environments where children can thrive and grow.
