Dear Supporters,
The last quarter has seen a great boost in the management of our weekly visits to President’s Village with our new staff member Jean-Luke Bristol. As a Seychellois and thus speaking the local language, Creole, the communication with the village has greatly increased. They have also benefited from having a familiar face every week in which a better report can be generated. The weekly sessions are now more organized with a better understanding of children - the volunteers will have the pleasure of entertaining as well as more informative sessions. Jean-Luke will be here for an extended period of time and so we are hopeful that things will only get better from here. Now that the winds are beginning to change direction and their local beach is experiencing calmer conditions, most of the children spend the late afternoon, playing in the water before the sun goes down, a fantastic sight to behold.
With continual pressure on resources, the village have outlined a way in which we can benefit the children from the money raised through fund-raising. Currently, only half of their facility is powered by environmentally friendly solar power. They have expressed a wish to make their energy completely conservational and thus are planning to install more solar panels when enough funds are available. The benefits of which are numerous, including the ability to direct more funds away from utilities to the children. The GVI Trust were responsible for the initial installation of their current solar panels, and thus it would be a real accomplishment to realise this dream, benefiting both the children as well as the environment by reducing emissions.
We are all very excited for our annual raft race coming up, where local organizations can battle each other over the finish line in their home-made rafts. All donations will go towards the President’s Village as always, including the entrance fee that every competitor will contribute. We are expecting big things, especially after the success of the previous fund-raising event, Tour-De-Ternay.
Thank you so much for all your support!
