Moving forward with the Renewable Energy Project

Dear Supporter,

The GVI Seychelles Marine Expedition began working with our Charitable Trust, the President’s Village Children’s Home, in 2010.

GVI Seychelles successfully transformed the terrestrial expedition base on Curiuese to run off a solar power system last year. The system now provides power almost 24 hours a day and GVI wanted to bring that same success to the President’s Village.  After a series of meetings and site visits with GVI, President’s Village and local renewable energy experts, GVI presented a proposal to the President’s Village with options for their own solar power system to reduce their costs, enabling them to put those savings into other projects that would directly benefit the children.

One option is to start with funds currently available and install solar panels on individual houses at the President’s Village.

The other option is to continue fund raising and aim to install a much larger solar panel system on the main building that uses the most electricity and has the highest utility bills.

While the President’s Village is deciding which option to choose, GVI Seychelles continues to fund raise and is currently preparing for their next fund raising event, the Beaches of Mahe Challenge on Thursday, October 10th. Regardless of which option they choose, installing a solar panel system at President’s Village will help them reduce costs while conserving valuable resources here on Mahe.

Thank you for supporting the Children's Home throughout 2013 and I look forward to bringing you more news about which option we are moving forward with!

Many thanks

Sophie
